Fired Police Officer Arrested in Hit-and-Run

Stephen Coco is facing two felony counts of conduct after an accident.

Hillsborough County Attorney Patricia LaFrance said this morning that fired Manchester police officer Stephen Coco has been charged with two felony counts of conduct after an accident in connection with Friday's hit-and-run accident on Harrod Lane.

Coco, 41, a Bedford resident, was a sergeant with the Manchester Police Department until he was fired on Monday night. He worked for the department for 17 years, most recently in the special investigations unit. He lives a mile from the crash scene, and was off-duty at the time of the crash, according to LaFrance.

LaFrance said a warrant for Coco's arrest was issued Monday night, and he turned himself in early Tuesday morning. He was arraigned within the last hour, but bail information was not immediately available.

Asked if Coco had been drinking at the time of the crash, LaFrance said she could not comment on the investigation.

Bedford Police were called to Harrod Lane shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Friday for a report of two pedestrians injured by a dark-colored SUV that left the scene. One pedestrian suffered minor injuries, but the other was reported to have suffered serious head trauma. LaFrance said this morning that both of the teenage boys injured in Friday's crash are back home, "recovering and recuperating."
