Bedford Burglary Spree Now Up to Five

Two more Bedford residences burglarized Sunday.

Bedford Police are currently investigating five residential burglaries, which all occurred over the weekend.

Between Friday, July 12 and Monday, July 15, five residential burglaries were reported in Bedford on Ministerial Rd; Boynton St; Lynn Drive; Quincy Drive; and Nancy Lane; between the hours of 10 a.m. and midnight, with investigators identifying the most probable time frame between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Police are urging Bedford residents to secure all doors and windows, as well as any “in-window” air conditioning units.

Despite the high heat and need for ventilation, residents are encouraged to keep all doors and windows firmly secured when their home is unoccupied.

Those residents leaving their house for an extended period of time are urged to contact the Bedford Police Department to request a vacant property check. In addition, police also support contacting a neighbor(s) to advise them of the vacancy and to encourage them to immediately report any and all suspicious activity, person(s), vehicle(s), noise or other observations to the Bedford Police Department at 472-5113.

Other safety tips include:

  • Having mail/newspaper delivery suspended or picked up by a neighbor;
  • Placing lights on timer(s) or using motion detection lighting;
  • Making sure your alarm system is activated and in good working order if installed.
The best preventative action, however, is to secure all doors and windows when you are not at home. Many residential burglaries are facilitated by unsecured potential access areas.

In addition, residents are encouraged to keep the serial number(s) of any computer equipment recorded for future reference and to activate any remote location software on the computer.

Residents should also take photographs of any important, expensive or keepsake jewelry for future to reference and assist investigators in recovering any stolen property.
