New Hampshire Shines at the Shrine

Minus a pair of Bedford stars, NH didn't skip a beat against Vermont in this year's Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl.

Neither Bedford High School quarterback James Caparell, nor offensive lineman Will McInerney played in the game, but New Hampshire's squad of outgoing all-star seniors blitzed through Vermont's talented bunch, 43-0, to lock up the Granite State's 13th straight victory in the 60th Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl at Dartmouth's Memorial Field.

Will McInerney, a 6-foot-7, 275-pound tackle who is heading to the University of New Hampshire gridiron this fall, did not play his senior season at Bedford due to surgery on both knees last summer. Likewise, he missed this year's Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl, which was played Saturday, Aug. 3.

Caparell, who will attend and play football at the University of Rhode Island, may have set the New Hampshire career record for passing with 5,389 yards in his four years at BHS, but he also missed the contest. The Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl's website cited a college obligation Bedford's star signal caller.
