Bedford Native Named UNH Starting Quarterback

Dual-threat signal caller earns nod following impressive offseason.

For four years, Andy Vailas stood out at Bishop Guertin, using both his legs and arm to lead the Cardinals to multiple state football titles.

His high school coach, Tony Johnson, often told anyone who would listen that Vailas was the best athlete in the state, and the Bedford native did nothing on the gridiron to dispel the notion.

Now, University of New Hampshire head football coach Sean McDonnell is hoping to harness similar success from the 6'2", 193-lb. signal caller.

This weekend, McDonnell named Vailas his starting quarterback when the Wildcats open the 2013 season against Central Michigan on Saturday, Sept. 7, according to Foster's Daily Democrat.

The decision comes on the heals of a summer-long competition with fellow sophomore Sean Goldrich. Both players received playing time in 2012.
