Bedford Falls One Win Short of Playoffs

Bulldogs finish impressive Division I debut season with 7-2 record.

They started the season with a stunning 14-12 upset over Division I superpower Pinkerton Academy and then proceeded to rattle off four straight victories without allowing a point against their stingy defense.

In fact, the Bulldogs began their first D-I campaign on a six-game winning streak, outscoring their opponents, 219-26.

By all accounts, Bedford High School's first season in Division I was a smashing success.

Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, the D-I North conference is arguably the toughest in the state's top division and Bedford's two losses came to two North opponents – 34-27 at undefeated Concord and a 20-16 setback to 7-2 Manchester Central on Friday, Nov. 1.

So despite having a record equal or better than five of the eight D-I postseason qualifiers, BHS has missed the playoffs for the first time in years, since only two teams from each of the four conferences qualify.

Following the loss, BHS head coach Kurt Hines posted the following on his Facebook page:

What we achieved our first year in DI is nothing short of amazing! So proud of the young men I'm so blessed to coach!

He later followed by putting the season into perspective:

I'm heartbroken for our young men (especially for our Seniors), but "this too shall pass", and we will ALL be stronger because of the amazing season we had! #feelingblessed
