Bedford Superintendent-elect Chip McGee starts July 1

Bedford School Board announces McGee will succeed Tim Mayes.

Bedford School Board Chair Terry Wolf announced after the board's meeting March 24 that Assistant Superintendent Chip McGee will succeed Tim Mayes as the next superintendent of schools in SAU 25. He begins July 1, as Mayes retires.

"Chip McGee has spent the past 11 years as Assistant Superintendent here in Bedford leading our efforts in curriculum, assessment, and instruction. He played a critical role in the creation of Bedford High School. Before coming to Bedford, he helped found the Beacon School, now noted as one of the best public schools in New York City," Wolf said in a press release.

McGee, the 2009 recipient of the Annual Service Award by the New Hampshire School Administrators Association, studied History and Education at Brown University and earned a joint MBA/EdD from Columbia University.

In the School Board's announcement, McGee said, "I am grateful to the School Board and to the entire community for this opportunity. It is an honor to be trusted to lead this superb school system. I have big shoes to fill with the retirement of current Superintendent Tim Mayes. With the support of the Board, teachers, parents, students, and the community, I hope to keep us moving in a positive direction."
