Bedford Student's Work on Display at NYC Fashion Exhibition

Amy Sullivan's work was chosen for inclusion in "Organic Matter: Woven Artwear by Pratt Fashion."

A Bedford resident's work is being featured this week at a fashion exhibition in Manhattan.

Amy Sullivan, who attends Pratt Institute, was one of 31 students whose work was chosen for inclusion in "Organic Matter: Woven Artwear by Pratt Fashion." The new exhibition features Sullivan and fellow sophomore and junior fashion students who re-think the form, function, and design of knitwear as fine art.

Free and open to the public, "Organic Matter" runs from Jan. 21 to Jan. 28 at the acclaimed Gallery Nine, located at 44 West 18th St.

Of the more than 90 projects considered for the exhibition, Sullivan’s knitwear project consists of a one-shoulder asymmetrical crocheted dress with sculptural forms on the skirt. The students worked exclusively with neutral-colored yarn to create wearable art for display on Pucci International’s high-fashion mannequins designed in matte grey.

In addition to highlighting the innovative fashion designers of tomorrow, "Organic Matter" is a rare opportunity for sophomore- and junior-level Pratt students to create works of art for a commercial gallery. The exhibition is a partnership between Pratt Institute and Ralph Pucci International, the world-renowned high-end mannequin, lighting, furniture, and sculpture company.
