Secretary of State Coming to Bedford

Bill Gardner will discuss NH's First-in-the-Nation Primary with Bedford students next week.

He didn't have to wait long for a response.

When Bedford Town and School District Moderator Ryk Bullock approached Bill Gardner with the idea, the affirmative answer was immediate.

"I hadn't even finished the question and he was already asking me which day and time worked best," said Bullock.

Gardner, New Hampshire's Secretary of State, eagerly agreed to take the short drive from the Statehouse in Concord to the Meetinghouse in Bedford, where he'll speak with students from the internship program Bullock coordinates with Bedford High School to expose students to the local government election process.

Of course, the event is open to more than just BHS students. Bullock is extending invitations to Bedford students attending The Derryfield School, Bishop Guertin, Bishop Brady and Trinity High School, and even Lurgio Middle School as well.

Gardner will focus on the First-in-the-Nation Primary, a subject with which he's intimately familiar. After all, he's written a book on the subject and has been New Hampshire's chief defender when other states have attempted to steal the longtime FITN designation right out from under the Old Man's fallen nose.

The event is currently scheduled for 4 p.m., on Friday, Feb. 24, at the Bedford Town Meeting Room at 10 Meetinghouse Road.
