Sanborn Compares 'Obamacare' to Plane Crash

Joke called 'heartless and callous' by NH Democratic Party.

New Hampshire state Sen. Andy Sanborn (R-Bedford) joked during a radio show July 9 that the Affordable Care Act "is barreling down on us like a jet landing into San Francisco."
Sanborn, who can be heard making a brief laugh after the comparison, said on WTPL 107.7 FM, "It should make people really concerned."
The New Hampshire Democratic Party released a recording of the Concord radio show program (a clip of which is attached to the video above) while condemning the remarks and Sanborn, who is said to be considering a run for higher office.

Patch left a voicemail with Sanborn seeking comment.

A conservative Republican and businessman, Sanborn has remained a vocal critic of the Affordable Care Act. Democrats slammed him last month for what they called an offensive tweet referring to Gov. Maggie Hassan (D-Hassan).

The state Democratic Party said he went too far, especially since the deadly plane crash in San Francisco on July 6.

"In his radical right-wing crusade against the Affordable Care Act, there is no rhetoric too shameful or appalling for Senator Sanborn," New Hampshire Democratic Party spokesman Harrell Kirstein said in a statement. "His comments are heartless and callous, ignoring the awful loss of human life from this tragic accident and then using it as political fodder for his Tea Party opposition to affordable health insurance reform for working New Hampshire citizens. All New Hampshire Republicans should swiftly condemn Sanborn’s cruel joke."
