Biography

I have been blessed with wonderful parents, natives of New Jersey and Connecticut, who set good examples and high expectations. I was also fortunate to receive an excellent education in electrical engineering at the Rochester Institute of Technology, in industrial design at Rhode Island School of Design, and in marketing management at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management.

I had the opportunity and the honor to serve our country as a Marine Corps officer and pilot. I view that time as one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. It shaped and matured me a great deal. I was awarded the Bronze Star while serving as a Forward Air Controller with 2nd battalion, 7th Marine regiment; and five air medals while flying eighty missions as an A4E attack pilot in Vietnam.

In the photo on the right, I am getting ready to launch off of the USS Saratoga just prior to departing for Vietnam in '65.

Thirty-four years of management and leadership experience as a sales and marketing executive with Xerox, US Surgical, General Electric, and Solarex added skills and lessons, plus processes and practices that have been of great value. I have led local, national, and global organizations, and even had my own consulting practice for a while. I have written two business books. The Sales Manager's Troubleshooter, published by Prentice Hall, was named one of the Top Ten business reads of '98 by Sales and Marketing Management magazine. I also wrote numerous professional articles, most of which were for Steven Covey's Executive Excellence magazine. In addition I taught marketing for one semester at Southern New Hampshire University.

Military service plus corporate moves and promotions have given me and my family the opportunity to live in South Carolina, Illinois, Florida, North Carolina, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Virginia. We're tired of moving! We've been here in New Hampshire for eight years, and this will be our retirement home!

I am currently a member of the Bedford Republican Committee, the Bedford Men's Club, the Knights of Columbus council at St. Elizabeth Seton, the Military Officer's of America Association, and the local VFW post.

Priorities

  • Seek the opinions of Bedford residents, listen to unsolicited views, and respond to emails, calls, and letters.
  • To leverage the experience I gained in the past two terms and make the most of the relationships I have built with a broad spectrum of people both in state government and with non-government stakeholder organizations.
  • To propose legislation, with others or by myself, that is meaningful and aligned with the aforementioned issues to which I am sensitive, issues that will be of broad benefit to the people of New Hampshire. Legislation currently planned for 2013 includes:
    • A bill to strengthen our budget process that will embed a culture of continuous improvement in state operations, and mandate performance metrics from all departments. This bill will foster improved services. It will repeal the maintenance budget and put in place an efficiency budget, a work product that will be decidedly useful for department heads, the governor, and the legislature.
    • I will also be sponsoring a bill on behalf of recent Bedford High School graduate, Irina Davis, in regard to animal cruelty penalties. It was Irina's senior project.
  • Make thoughtful decisions and cast votes for legislation that is consistent with my core values and positions, and is respectful of the US and New Hampshire constitutions.
  • I am currently the sole House member who serves on the states Economic Development Advisory Council, and was successful in having the Division of Economic Development begin the process of creating a state economic development plan. I will seek renomination to that Council.

Positions

  • Pro-Life and Pro-Family in all Matters
  • Traditional Marriage
  • Pro-Business and Economic Development
  • Improved Efficiency in State Government
  • Protection of our Vulnerable and Disadvantaged Citizens
  • Healthcare Initiatives that Focus on Prevention
  • Right-to-Work
  • Local Control of Taxes and Education
  • Environmental Stewardship
  • No Broad-Based Taxes for NH
  • No Expanded Gambling

Values

My faith, my family, and my country represent my core values. Local control, low taxes, and limited government represent my political bias. I view the US Constitution as an intellectual work of art, a limiting, not a living, document.

  • Family and pro-life issues. Family is the foundation of a stable society and protection of life is what God has commanded.Education. It is an escalating imperative to sustain our national leadership and enhance our children's circumstances.
  • Veteran's issues. Aiding those who served is an unshakeable responsibility.
  • Small business. Entrepreneurship, neighborhood enterprises, and vigorous little companies are the engine of economic growth.
  • Business development. An environment that fosters corporate growth, investment, and relocation to NH translates to job creation, a strong tax base, and fiscal strength.
  • Senior needs. It is mandatory to support our vulnerable and disadvantaged citizens.
  • The environment & alternative energy. We have been given an irreplaceable gift and our precious resources are limited.
  • I am a fiscal conservative... and will continue be a responsible steward of our revenues.

If these core values resonate with you, I will fight for what we believe, and I would appreciate your support and your vote. I hope my opening comments have helped you understand who I am and what I stand for.

I will passionately represent Republican and Bedford, and New Hampshire interests. Being a leader and activist is my approach to every endeavor I have pursued... and the same will apply in Concord. I am ready to again go to work for you!

Reasons for Running

  1. I believe it is my responsibility as a citizen to serve the community. For example, I have done that as a meals-on-wheels driver, as a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Bedford Men's Club, and the VFW.
  2. It is my personal philosophy to utilize and contribute my God-given talents as much as I can. For example, I have contributed as an appointed member of the US Commerce Department's District Export Councils and as a Citizen's Democracy Corps volunteer, and as a member of NH's Economic Development Advisory Council.
  3. To protect traditional NH values. Local control of taxing and spending; traditional values; limited government; and personal freedoms are time-tested and highly valued principles, and differentiate us from other states. We are drifting from them, they are being encroached upon, and I do not like it!
  4. My grandchildren. I want to be a force in preserving the best of American values and traditions for their sake... while setting an example for them. (5 of 11 pictured, right)
  5. I am a problem-solver by nature. My creativity stems from my industrial design and marketing education. I thrive on developing resourceful solutions to challenges.
  6. I thoroughly enjoyed serving in the House the past two terms. I found committee work, the opportunity to speak on issues of which I am passionate, the opportunity to vice-chair two committees, and the camaraderie to be gratifying.
