Medical Examiner: Sonia Quesada's Death 'Suspicious'

Dr. Thomas A. Andrew doesn't believe homicide was the cause of Bedford woman's death.

BEDFORD – New Hampshire's Chief Medical Examiner, who Tuesday performed the autopsy on 30-year-old Sonia Quesada, said he has found nothing to indicate her death was the result of a homicide.

Dr. Thomas A. Andrew did, however, say he believes Quesada's death was unnatural, specifically noting her age and physical condition.

"We're treating it as a suspicious death in that it's untimely in an otherwise healthy person," Andrew said in a phone interview with Bedford Patch.

He could not confirm that the case is being investigated as a suicide, but said toxicology results would take roughly 4-6 weeks.

"The people of Bedford should know that there is nothing about this autopsy that puts them at risk," said Andrew. "The appears to be an issue within that single family, but I've seen absolutely nothing whatsoever that indicates anyone else is at risk."

Quesada was found dead Monday – along with her unconscious husband, Dr. Eduardo Quesada – in her mother-in-law's 49 Kensington Road condominium.

Bedford Police Chief John Bryfonski, who did not immediately return a request for comment, said Monday night that there was a large amount of prescription drugs found at the scene.

Prior to Monday's developments, the Quesada's made national news after they were reportedly victims of a violent assault during a home invasion at their 7 Proclamation Court house in November.

It's unknown how long the couple had been staying at the residence of 81-year-old Norma Quesada prior to police finding them Monday morning. Officers, who were called to the scene when a family member requested a welfare check, forcibly entered the home after repeated failed attempts to contact the Quesadas.

New Hampshire State Police, the NH Attorney General's Office and the Hillsborough County Attorney's office are also involved in the case.

There are no further details, including the current condition of Dr. Quesada, available at this time.
