Obituary: Founder of Bedford Soccer League

69-year-old was born in England.

Michael R. Garry, 69, passed away on Dec. 25, 2013. He was born in Illford, England, on Feb. 24, 1944, the son of Matthew and Winifred (Smith) Garry.

He graduated with honors from London University earning his mechanical engineering degree. Michael was employed for several years with the Royal Bank, Montreal, Canada, in the computer department. He was joined in marriage on Cape Cod with Barbara M. Westbrook on June 30, 1973. Mike was employed as a software engineer with Digital Equipment Corp. for 20 years. After retirement he enjoyed operating a very successful eBay business buying and selling camera equipment.

Mike enjoyed a 23-year membership at the Manchester Country Club, where he served as secretary for several years. He enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of two bridge groups, and loved the Red Sox and the Patriots. He was a founder of the Bedford Soccer League. Mike was a 35-year member of St. Elizabeth Seton Parish.

Mike was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and took great joy in spending time with family and supporting everything they did. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Barbara; a son, Matthew Garry and his wife, Rebecca; a daughter, Kathryn Garry; a grandson, Michael Richard Garry; a brother, David Garry and his wife, Sandra; and a nephew, John Garry.

Calling hours will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 29, in Goodwin Funeral Home, 607 Chestnut St., Manchester. A Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 30, in St. Elizabeth Seton Parish, 190 Meetinghouse Road, Bedford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire, 545 New Hampshire Route 101, Bedford.
