I'm Back!!!

It has been several weeks since I’ve posted a blog on Patch. Those who personally know me are aware of what made blogging impossible for me during that time period, despite there having been many local topics in Bedford for which some attention could have been given. The truth is that due to a continuing health situation, I became a hospital patient in late February, and spent the entire month of March in the hospital and in hospice. In fact, I’ve only been home for just over one week. Now that I’m slowly returning to my normal life, I’ll be blogging again, and I hope to begin taping new “Tell It Like It Is” shows in about two weeks. Hopefully you’ll view the shows, and hopefully you’ll also continue to follow my blog postings.

When I returned home, my email box was stuffed with over 11,300 new unopened emails. Staggering! I honestly do not know how long it will take me (if ever) to read them all. And my voicemail was loaded with messages from people who were sending me their good wishes. I also honestly don’t know how and when I’ll ever return all of the calls. But I want you to know that every email and telephone call is much appreciated, and I am humbled by the kindness of so many. And those of you who sent greeting cards, flowers, and plants, please know that they have given me much pleasure and joy. And then there are those who left family meals at our front door. Your generosity and thoughtfulness has been simply magnificent. And we surely have enjoyed quite a menu of perfectly delicious dinners. I am so lucky to know so many amazing and caring people. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. You all made a very difficult time bearable.

Meanwhile, the Bedford election was held. Congratulations to the winners, and to the other candidates, thank you for having the wherewithal to put yourselves out there as candidates. Bedford will now see some good roads, and while the second fire station failed to get a majority vote, the stage is now set for improved public safety via the next Town election. Perhaps in 2015. The school “gimme” crowd pulled out all of the stops to once again give us a big tax increase, but there will be future backlash as townspeople recognize more and more that Bedford’s needs have for too long been postponed or shortchanged due to what more and more people are regarding as overly lavish school spending. A town is more than just its schools. The “gimmes” are going to be educated to that basic fact of life. We will strive for and get more balance.

Anyway . . . I’m back, and I’m thrilled to be. We’ve got lots to talk about in coming weeks and months. Happy Spring!            It has been several weeks since I’ve posted a blog on Patch.
