Conversations with a Client

Over the years in business I have met so many people with different wants and needs.  The conversations that have taken place have been interesting.  I am continually learning something from new from my clients and their life story is important to me. Some are struggling with difficult changes in their life, some needing last minute assistance because they were having a hectic week or life in general is just plain busy!  Then there are those that have nowhere to turn, have no family or friends in the area to call on therefore are doing the best they can.

This has been my mission and purpose, to be there for others, problem solve for others and find the resources for whatever needs to get done.  I am very passionate about helping others.

What have I learned from my client’s?  Here is just a sample of some of the people I have met along the way.

  • Pauline was a registered nurse back in the day, she was a wealth of information regarding medical issues and would talk about her patients.  She shared tips on how important it is to take care of our body in our younger years in order to have a healthier mind and body as we age.

  • Melissa a single mom with two children, works full time while going to college part time in the evenings.  Can you even imagine what her calendar looks like?  She has a lot going on although Melissa did manage to figure out how she could fit most of it in.  Melissa’s focus is to provide a home for her children, move up in her company, make more money and have time to spend with her children.  She understands delegating the things she does not have time for in order to reach her goals and have a better quality of life.  She make me realize how we can only do so much multi-tasking, eventually we all pay when we have too much on our plate and try to do it all.

  • Barbara is a traveling busy professional that jumps on a plane every Monday and returns on Friday.  She has only her weekends to get everything done, unlike you and I who have our weeknights to do some of the everyday tasks before the weekend arrives.  Barbara opened my eyes to how much we all do in any given week and the importance of using the weekends for down time, not catch up time.

  • Lauren is a mother in Vermont with a twenty something son relocating to New Hampshire to start a new job.  Her request to have a week’s worth of groceries delivered to his apartment a couple of times to get him by until he got his first pay check.  She shared with me her struggles with her son and the tough love she was trying to implement though she wanted to do this one thing while he began his new job long distance from home.

  • Susan, her elderly mother lived with her.  She needed someone to check in on her mom daily while away on her vacations.  Each visit we made was like a history lesson.  Her mother would tell stories of the past when she and her husband were in the military, what life was like when she was growing up and how grateful she was for all those experiences.

  • Gail a busy professional needs a weekly grocery delivery so she doesn’t have to make a stop after work or spend her Saturday shopping for food.  We would deliver while she was a work.  It was months before we met Gail in person and there was another reason she requested grocery delivery, she has Multiple Sclerosis therefore navigating the grocery store was challenging.  When we finally had our first conversation in person she told me her story of her personal difficulties along the way.

  • Conversations can open up some interesting topics.  The way we all cope with our everyday responsibilities, how small things can make a BIG difference and our own personal needs can vary though we all want the same thing in some respects.  The same thing we are all looking for is more TIME: time for someone to listen to our own individual needs, time for getting everyday chores and tasks done and time to the find solutions and resources for everything in between.

I always say, plan ahead and when stuff happens along the way go to plan B.  Plan B might be seeking out other resources in order to get something done or solve a problem.  The important thing I always keep in mind with our clients are, the needs of others is 9 times out of 10 about the everyday struggles others have with their own personal journey.  We all have a story.

I would love to hear your thoughts.  Feel free to open up this conversation.
