Rand Paul vs. Chris Christie in the 2016 NH Primary?

The two potential GOP presidential candidates topped a recent UNH/WMUR poll.

It's still early, but already some New Hampshire voters are choosing sides in the 2016 GOP presidential primary.

A University of New Hampshire/WMUR survey released this week has U.S. Sen. Rand Paul atop the heap of Republican contenders, followed closely by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

If the election were held today, 17 percent of likely Republican primary voters said they would go with Paul. Sixteen percent said they'd vote for Christie, 9 percent for Paul Ryan, 8 percent for Jeb Bush, 6 percent for Ted Cruz, 4 percent apiece for Marco Rubio and Rick Santorum, 2 percent for Paul Walker, and 1 percent for Rick Perry. Twenty-one percent of those surveyed said they remain undecided.

Paul's father, Ron Paul, is very popular in New Hampshire, having finished second in the 2012 New Hampshire Primary. Rand Paul was in Concord earlier this year for an NHGOP fundraiser.

Christie is also well known here in the Granite State. He made numerous stops in New Hampshire leading up to the 2012 primary, stumping for Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

Of course, neither one has announced that they will definitely run in 2016 at this point.

On the other side of the political aisle, Hillary Clinton continues to lead all potential Democratic presidential candidates by a wide margin.

The UNH/WMUR Granite State Poll has Clinton receiving support from a whopping 64 percent of likely Democratic primary voters, followed by Joe Biden at just 6 percent. U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren also received 6 percent, Andrew Cuomo came in at 2 percent, and Deval Patrick at 1 percent. Eighteen percent said they are still undecided.
