Man Kills Child, Then Himself in Manchester

SWAT teams descended on the YWCA around 10:30 Sunday morning for the shooting scene.

A father and son were found dead in a Manchester YWCA after a murder-suicide Sunday morning.

Muni Savyon, 54, of Manchester shot his son Joshua Savyon, 9, of Amherst in front of a counselor before turning the gun on himself, according to the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office and Manchester Police. The tragic shooting occurred in the building at 10:11 a.m.

The investigation so far reveals that Muni Savyon arrived at the YWCA at 9:30 a.m. for a supervised visit with his son, Joshua. An adult male counselor was also present in the room with Muni and Joshua Savyon for their one-hour visitation.

Partway through the visitation, Muni Savyon took out a handgun and shot his son several times, killing him. Muni Savyon then turned the gun on himself and killed himself, police said.

The counselor managed to escape the room unharmed. Muni and Joshua were found dead on the second floor.

A man shot and killed a child at the YWCA on Concord Street in Manchester on Sunday, Aug. 11, before killing himself, according to multiple reports. SWAT teams had the building and area secured during the late morning hours.

Manchester Police Chief Dave Mara tells WMUR that there is no threat to public safety. WMUR reports that the child was an 8-year-old boy.
