YMCA of Greater Manchester expands and changes name

Recent mergers and expansions of the YMCA of Greater Manchester have led the organization to change its name to The Granite YMCA. The association operates five YMCA facilities in Manchester, Goffstown, Londonderry, Portsmouth, and Rochester; four day camps, overnight camps Foss and Mi-Te-Na, and almost 25 child care sites throughout Hillsborough, Rockingham, Belknap, and Strafford counties.

Commenting on the name change, The Granite YMCA President/CEO Hal Jordan said, "The Granite YMCA name clearly defines our solid history in strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Our new name also more accurately reflects our reach and dedication to communities across New Hampshire. It reinforces our commitment to provide communities with leading programs in youth development and healthy living. As our breadth of services in child care, camp, health and wellness, and other sports and play programs continue to expand, branches will be better positioned to strengthen their individual commitment to the local community while benefiting from the operating efficiencies and long history of an organization deeply rooted in the greater Manchester area. This is a very exciting time for our Y as we move into other areas to strengthen communities around the state.”

The Granite YMCA is a large community organization with a solid history of community support. Currently serving about 37% of the population of New Hampshire, the organization has transformed and grown tremendously over the past two years. Last year the Y provided financial assistance and/or free services to 18,773 individuals at the value of $1.6M in the communities we serve. The Granite YMCA emerged several decades ago as the community leader in youth development programs such as child care, camps, and youth sports and play programs, as well as adult programs dedicated to healthy living.

A greater balance of programs, along with a name change, will help the community and members better understand how The Granite YMCA is aligned to the overall association. By providing our communities with greater clarity about all that we offer in the three areas of focus, The Granite YMCA can more effectively position all of programs to take advantage of emerging opportunities for accelerated growth. By coming together, all five branches and our camps can build upon one another’s strengths to best address the needs of individuals and families in the communities we serve. Together, we are The Granite YMCA.
