State to Assist Stop & Shop Workers

Hundreds of supermarket employees expected to be displaced as a result of Tuesday's decision to close all six NH stores.

Yesterday, Bedford Patch was one of several local media outlets to break the news that Stop & Shop is closing all six of its New Hampshire supermarkets, including the Bedford location at 7 Kilton Road.

Late Tuesday, Gov. Maggie Hassan issued the following statement in response to recent store closure announcements by both Stop & Shop and Shaw’s:

“I recognize the impact that these pending store closures in New Hampshire will have on their employees, and I have directed the state's Rapid Response Team to provide all possible assistance to workers.

“The Rapid Response Team, led by the Department of Resources and Economic Development and encompassing a number of state agencies, is coordinating with the companies and will hold in-person sessions to connect affected workers with services and other job opportunities.

New Hampshire is an all-hands-on-deck state, we pull together and pitch in to help those in need, and I will work to ensure that state government does its part.”
