Our Promise to Nicholas Foundation Announces Easter Egg Hunt

Get ready to discover fun filled activities at this year’s Annual Our Promise to Nicholas (OPTN) Easter Egg Hunt scheduled for Saturday, April 12th, 2014 from 8:30-11am at the NH Sportsplex in Bedford. This popular family event, now in its 6th year, has become a favorite of the Hillsborough County residents and their children.  The event benefits OPTN’s mission for finding a cure for Batten Disease. This, currently fatal, neurodegenerative disease afflicts several area children, including Bedford’s own 10 year old Nicholas Dainiak.

OPTN is seeking sponsors, at all levels, for this year’s Egg Hunt to join their returning contributing sponsors: the NH Sportsplex and IRA Lexus of Manchester. “We are honored to have the opportunity to lend support to this worthy cause and the community in which we do business”, said Ed Stockel, General Manager of IRA Lexus. Through the support of corporate sponsorships, local businesses and community volunteers, last year’s event was attended by 1,100 guests who helped raise $15,000 for the Foundation!

Everyone young, old and in between will experience fun and amusement at this year’s event.  The Easter Bunny is ready to roll with his candy and sticker filled eggs.  A few lucky egg hunters will discover special eggs with prizes inside!  For those not actively “hunting,” there will be live entertainment, games, silent auction, bake sale and raffle tickets for Easter Baskets. Tickets are $5 per person or $20 per family. Cash or check will be accepted at the door. The NH Sportsplex is located at 68 Technology Drive in Bedford.

The Our Promise to Nicholas Foundation (OPTN) was founded in 2009 after Nicholas Dainiak was diagnosed with Batten Disease. This rare, and currently incurable genetic disorder, affects an estimated two to four children in every 100,000 born in the United States.  Nicholas’ parents, Chris and Heather, promised him that they would work tirelessly to find a cure for this brutal and debilitating disease that will rob him of his childhood and ultimately his life. In searching for a cure, the Foundation’s primary focus has been to fund research for Batten Disease which may in turn assist in finding cures for more common diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.  For more information on Nicholas’ journey, OPTN-funded research initiatives, Batten Disease or to make a direct donation, visit the OPTN Foundation website at www.ourpromisetonicholas.com.
