Weekend Planner: Ralphie May Brings the Laughs to NH

Laugh and have a good time at one or more of these great New Hampshire events.

1. Get ready to laugh. Ralphie May and Drew Lynch will bring their unique styles of comedy to Concord on Friday, April 26 at 7:30 p.m. Ralphie May was voted one of Variety’s “10 Comics to Watch” in 2008, and has filmed a record-setting three separate 1-hour Comedy Central Specials in the past three years. Opening for Ralphie is Drew Lynch, an eager young actor who, at age 20, got hit in the throat with a softball, turning his trademark snappy patter into stuttering. This life changing injury sparked a passion for writing and performing stand-up comedy, bringing to life the social hardships of dealing with a newly-developed speech impediment. Drew is on a mission to make you laugh.

2. We go together! The Palace Theatre will present their production of Grease starting this Friday at 7:30 p.m.  After spending a hopelessly devoted summer with Sandy Dumbrowski, the new girl in town, Danny Zuko's world is thrown upside down when Sandy appears at Rydell High on the first day of school. What follows is a rock n' roll celebration of growing up, cruising with friends and going steady. Grease features songs from the smash hit 1978 motion picture, including: “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” “Grease” and “You’re the One That I Want” “Summer Nights,” “Greased Lightnin’” and “We Go Together.” Be There or Be Square! Part of the 2012-2013 Citizens Bank Performing Arts Series!

3. There she is! The 67th Annual Miss New Hampshire Scholarship Competition will take place from April 25-27 at Stockbridge Theatre located within Pinkerton Academy. The league’s flagship travel team, the Legislashers, will take on the Mass Attack Roller Derby All-Stars in the headlining game, beginning at 6p. 5. Classic! Ninedays will be playing at the Tupelo Music Hall in Londonderry on Saturday, April 27 at 8 p.m. Remember the song, "Story of a Girl?" Named after the amount of time they had to record their first record, ninedays began in around 1994 when talented songwriters Brian Desveaux and John Hampson started writing songs together after spending years in other bands playing in and around New York. The hurried recording of their first album, 1995′s Something To Listen To, then gave ninedays the impetus to follow that with an album named after their Monday night residency at a local popular club, Monday Songs, a year later. Further success followed as they were winners of WBAB's Home-grown Talent Search and WLIR's Best Unsigned band competition and with the recording of yet another album, 1998′s simply titled Three, it wouldn't be long before the major labels would show their interest.
