Weekend Planner: Tons of Local Indoor Fun!

Get your art on and and prepare for what will surely be some good times this weekend.

1. Almost, Maine. See Bedford High School Theatre Company's not to be missed production of Almost, Maine.  Set in northern Maine with a cast of characters sure to win your heart, the play offers delightful glimpses of moments under the Northern Lights. Written by John Cariani, directed by Lisa Moore, and showcasing the beautiful sets Bedford High School has come to be known for, Almost, Maine is utterly charming. 2. Get a look behind the camera ... Want to learn more about Bedford’s community access television station? Here's your chance. Bedford Community Television (BCTV) has scheduled an open  house for Saturday, May 11, from 11-3 p.m. This event offers you you opportunity to tour the station and witness, firsthand, what it takes to make BCTV one of the most well-recognized and award-laden community access television stations, not only in New Hampshire, but throughout New England. You'll also have the opportunity to learn how to get involved as a volunteer, whether it’s as a producer, host, or as a camera volunteer. Have a show idea?  Drop in and tell BCTV Director Bill Jennings and the BCTV staff about it. The station is located at 10 Meetinghouse Road. 3. Art! The Currier Museum of Art in Manchester is hosting their ART Fest on Saturday, May. 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Don’t miss thus second annual Art Fest, which will focus on the handmade. The weekend will feature local artisans, art activities for all ages, and craft demonstrations. Abigail Anne Newbold, the artist behind the special exhibition Crafting Settlement, will demonstrate her artistic process and answer visitors’ questions. Celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday with Jazz Brunch and purchase tickets to take mom on the Garden Tour at the Zimmerman House. Free with museum admission.

4. The Beatles! Catch Beatlemania at Central High School in Manchester on Friday, May. 10 from 7:30-10:15 p.m. The Central High School is hosting a benefit concert at the Central High School Auditorium to raise much needed funds to support music education in their school. This event is titled “Keep Music Education Alive.” The Beatlemania Stage Show will be performing the complete Beatles experience from the Ed Sullivan day’s right through to the Magical Mystery Tour, Sgt. Pepper and Abbey Road with original costume changes and authentic Beatles instruments. The musicians from Beatlemania have performed professionally alongside the likes of Carly Simon, Hall and Oates, BJ Thomas, Kiss, Todd Rundgren and others. Band members have also written songs with Cher, Billy Joel, Michael Bolton and Joan Jett and several movie sound tracks which included “Wayne’s World”,” Light of Day” and others.

5. A night of music! The Granite State Symphony Orchestra: Spring Pops & Silent Auction is on for Saturday, May. 11 from 7-10:30 p.m. A festive evening of "Wine, Women, and Song" closes our 19th season. Join us for an unforgettable night of favorite Strauss waltzes with dance and song, plus a few surprises from the Maestro. Come early and bid on spectacular items from Red Sox tickets to works by local artisans, and take a chance on raffle items such as spa and dining gift baskets. Tickets at the door are $10-$35.
