VIDEO: Lamontagne Urges Voter ID Veto Override

The Republican candidate accuses Democrats of ignoring voting integrity.

Ovide Lamontagne, a Republican candidate for governor, is urging state lawmakers to override Gov. John Lynch's veto of a bill to require voters to show photo ID before voting.

Lamontagne, in an interview with Patch on Friday, said Senate Bill 289 was crafted to ensure voting integrity, as there is "a great opportunity for voter fraud" without the measures.

The candidate acknowledged that the voter ID bill is "a wedge issue," in that the two major parties have major differences.Β

This is the second year in a row that Lynch as vetoed a voter ID bill. In his veto message, Lynch said he was prepared to support a version of the proposal, but became convinced the later version was too restrictive in allowing different photo IDs to be used.
