Tim Pawlenty Drops Out of GOP Race
Former Minnesota governor, who planned to visit Bedford this week, removes his name from presidential consideration.
Though there is no formal announcement on his official Web site, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty has announced he is no longer pursuing the GOP nod to run against Barack Obama for the U.S. Presidency, according to a report from the Associated Press.
The announcement comes a day after a poor showing in the Ames, Iowa straw poll. Pawlenty finished a distant third behind Michele Bachmann and Ron Paul.
"I wish it would have been different. But obviously the pathway forward for me doesn't really exist so we are going to end the campaign," Pawlenty said on ABC's "This Week" from Iowa shortly after disclosing his plans in a private conference call with supporters.
Pawlenty, who hadn't been to New Hampshire in two months, was scheduled to attend a house party in Bedford in Friday, Aug. 19, and then march in the Londonderry Old Home Day Parade before attending a Hampstead GOP meet and greet on Saturday, Aug. 20.

I want to take a moment to sincerely thank Gov. Tim Pawlenty for his professionalism and spirited presidential campaign. I greatly appreciate that he took the New Hampshire Primary very seriously and was a frequent visitor to our state. I wish the absolute best for him and his supporters. I know today is a difficult day for them but keep your eye on the prize and keep buggering on.
