As part of the Bedford Police Department’s Community Policing Program, the Department invites anyone seeking information regarding National Crime Victims’ Rights Week or information, assistance and resources as a victim of crime to contact Officer Danielle Nightingale of the Bedford Police Department at 472-5113 or dnightingale@bedfordnh.org.  In addition, Chief Bryfonski  will be available to discuss how Bedford Police assists victims of crime during a special monthly “Meet the Chief” community meeting on Tuesday April 23rd, from 6pm to 8pm at the Bedford Public Safety Complex.

Did you know that certain populations are disproportionately affected by crime, not necessarily because of the sheer numbers of victims but as a result of crime’s greater impact on these groups.  Young people (16-24) are the population group most victimized by crime.  They also commit the most crimes.  You can prevent such crimes by being vigilant and report any suspicious activity that you may see to your local police department.

While recognizing the victims of crime during National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, the Bedford Police Department wishes to emphasize our Community Policing Programs that are designed to prevent crime and prevent residents from becoming the victim of crime.  During National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, the Bedford Police Department will be promoting our “See Something – Say Something” program of awareness and vigilance to help prevent crime and victimization by calling the Bedford Police Department when anything suspicious or out of the ordinary is observed.

If you have been a victim of a crime and would like resources for yourself or family members you may contact your local agency for assistance.  If you have been or know someone who has been a victim of Child Sexual Abuse you may reach out to the Child Help line at 800-4-A-CHILD(1-800-422-4453).  If you have been or know someone who has been a victim of Financial Exploitation/Elderly Fraud you may reach out to the Eldercare Locator at 1-800-677-1116 or the National Adult Protective Services Association  at www.napsa-now.org  or www.ovc.gov/ncvrw2013

Editors note: Bedford Police will hold a moment of silence at Bedford Safety Complex at 9 a.m. Monday, April 22.
