It's Maple Weekend 2013! Syrup and Samples are Waiting

Each year, the Granite State maple industry produces close to 90,000 gallons of maple syrup. Maple sugaring time in New Hampshire runs from mid-February to mid-April, and Maple Weekend happens right in the middle of it all.

The true message of Maple Weekend is that there's life after winter, and it sure is sweet, said Debra Keene, gift shop manager at Parker's.

Not only do they feature a restaurant, which is a big draw, but there are also hiking trails and a stream behind the Mason sugar house and, of course, the gift shop, featuring plenty of locally-produced goods.

"There's a lot ot see in the gift shop – we have all sorts of products from local vendors, and we're always trying to get more U.S. made stuff in here," Keenan said.

More than 110 sugar houses statewide will be open for the 18th Annual New Hampshire Maple Weekend on March 23 and 24.

Like Parker's, some locations are offer pancake breakfasts, while others feature petting farms and entertainment. Every sugar house has its own vibe, but all provide a great learning experience about one of our state's oldest industries.

Remember, it's easy to find the closest sugar house to where you live thanks to the NH Maple Producers guide below, but lots of people make Maple Sugar Weekend a chance to explore the state by making it a field trip situation, and traveling to as many sugar houses as they can in a weekend – or maybe consider making it a destination getaway weekend.
