A Little Bit of Paradise: Alchemy Salon & Day Spa [VIDEO]

The Thursday Patch Passport shows you a Little Bit of Paradise. This is a local place where you can feel like you are a million miles away from the daily stress of life, without having to go far from home. Come along and relax ...

Marguerite Parent always had a natural talent and love of doing hair.

In fact, she planned to attend cosmetology school following high school, but veered off course and entered into a successful career in commercial insurance in Boston while she earned a Finance degree at Northeastern University.

In 2002, Parent, a Medford, Mass. native, graduated and soon met her future husband Dave, who lived in Merrimack.

She decided to move to Southern New Hampshire in 2006 and pursue her life dream of becoming a hair stylist.

In 2008, she took a big step toward turning that dream into reality when she founded Alchemy Salon & Day Spa in Bedford.

Alchemy’s prices are considered below average for the area, said Parent, yet the quality of their services rival and usually surpass those of their competitors.

The salon and day spa offers hair, skin and nail services including cutting, coloring, foiling, facials, make-up applications, micro-derm abrasion, body exfoliation, waxing, manicures and pedicures.

There are various spa packages available for either a brief escape or a full day of beauty, and clients can find unique, inexpensive jewelry that’s constantly changing according to the latest trends.

In the last three years, she's built a strong business through her complete faith in the power of unity and community; "everyone working together for the greater good."

Nothing, said Parent, makes her happier than being able to make someone else feel good, whether it’s a client or a co-worker.

The group of individuals that comprise Alchemy have truly been a Godsend, she added, helping to guide her in the direction she always knew she was destined.

Earlier this year, Parent, having completed 3000 hours of hands-on training, and having absorbed invaluable tips and tricks from six different stylists, received her cosmetology license in February.

Parent continues to attend cutting, coloring, foiling and styling classes regularly. She's steadily building her clientele, with tremendous positive feedback, and welcomes new clients of all ages.

Some of the professionals at Alchemy are employees and some are independent stylists/skin care experts, however, they all work together to ensure all of their clients have the most enjoyable and
relaxing experience.

Stylists range from the newly licensed to those with up to 40 years in
the industry, and Parent believes the unique camaraderie amongst her salon's service providers is what differentiates Alchemy from other salons and day spas in the area.

"Clients can immediately feel the positive and unpretentious atmosphere when they walk through the door," she said. "Alchemy prides itself on its upscale décor, services and professionalism all with a down-to-earth style. Clients are always offered free beverages and can either sit and read a book while they’re receiving a service or feel free to chat it up with the staff."

Alchemy is located at 410 South River Road, Unit 4, in Bedford.
