5 Things You Need To Know Today: Sept. 11

Here's what's good today.

1. Primarily, it's the Primary. Today is the day when Republicans make the choice between Ovide Lamontagne and Kevin Smith and Democrats choose whether Jackie Cilley or Maggie Hassan will represent their party in the November's General Election for the top spot in the state government. Of course, there are other great races as well, from Frank Guinta being for his Congressional District 1 seat to Andy Sanborn, Ken Hawkins and Michael Kenney . For information on all contested races, including candidate profiles, where and when to vote and more,

2. Today, we remember. It's tough to believe it's been 11 years since that beautiful, fateful September morning when we lost nearly 5,000 American lives in a few hours. Yet as we look back, we here at Patch send our thoughts and prayers to the still grieving friends and family of those impacted by the Sept. 11 attacks on the U.S. and to those first responders and volunteers still coping with the long-term physical and mental health effects of their service to those injured and fallen 11 years ago today.

3. Show Your Appreciation. Though Bedford doesn't have a Sept. 11 ceremony, nearby, Saint Anselm College is holding a "9/11 Remembrance and Day of Service" for local first responders (including Bedford's own) and their families, this Saturday, Sept. 1t. Activities include whiffle ball, a soccer clinic, arts and crafts and a barbecue.

4. Gorgeous day. If you haven't noticed. Fall has arrived (well, technically not for another 11 days, but you know what we mean). It's a great time to be a Granite Stater. Today's high is 74 degrees with abundant sunshine. The low tonight drops to 49 degrees, but there is a zero-percent chance of rain in the forecast all day and night.

5. Roadwork Roundup. Phase V of reconstruction on Meetinghouse Road began last week while work continues on Jenkins Road by the Merrimack town line. For more information, including detailed detour maps,
